The technical architecture behind every GridTitan UPS system — from IGBT rectifier design to DSP-based control algorithms. Built by engineers, documented for engineers.
Every GridTitan online UPS operates in true double-conversion mode per IEC 62040-3 classification VFI-SS-111. Incoming AC power is continuously rectified to DC, conditioned, and re-inverted to produce a regulated sinusoidal output — isolating the critical load from all mains disturbances including sags, surges, frequency variations, and harmonic content.
GridTitan UPS rectifiers employ IGBT-based active PFC circuits that shape the input current waveform to near-unity power factor. This eliminates the reactive power penalty that passive PFC designs impose on the upstream distribution, reduces generator sizing requirements, and ensures compliance with EN 61000-3-12 harmonic limits.
| Parameter | GridTitan Active PFC | Passive PFC (Typical) |
|---|---|---|
| Input Power Factor | > 0.99 | 0.75 – 0.85 |
| Input THDi | < 3% | 25 – 35% |
| Generator Compatibility | 1:1 sizing ratio | 1.5 – 2x oversizing |
GridTitan modular UPS platforms use independently operating power modules that share a common DC bus and communicate via a deterministic CAN bus protocol. Each module contains its own rectifier, inverter, and control DSP, enabling true N+1 redundancy without external synchronization hardware. Modules are hot-swappable — mean time to repair is under 10 minutes with no load interruption.
All GridTitan UPS inverters use 32-bit DSP controllers executing multi-loop control algorithms at 20 kHz switching frequency. This enables precise output voltage regulation (±1%), seamless static transfer (<2 ms), and adaptive battery charging profiles that extend VRLA service life by up to 25%.
High switching frequency produces clean sinusoidal output with <1% THDv, eliminating the need for large output filters.
Steady-state voltage regulation within ±1% for linear loads and ±2% for 100% step loads per IEC 62040-3.
Native IEC 61850, Modbus TCP/RTU, SNMP v3, and dry contact interfaces for SCADA integration.
